This weather has just been awful lately. Its a good thing I haven't been relying on the sunshine to keep my spirits up, because I would be Debbie Downer times a thousand these days.
SO... just some fun and factual history about Zack's life. I hope he doesn't hate me for doing this. Zack was 19 when he joined the military, (obviously the Marines Corps because that's the toughest, most elite branch). He scored really high on his ASVAB test (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, or in Alli's words: the test you gotta take to see which jobs you may or may not qualify for in the military. The higher you score the more jobs and options you qualify for. Zack scored ridiculously high. Go hubbs!) Because he scored so high, he qualified for every job in the military. His options were limitless, so he wanted to go active duty and go to sniper school to become a Sniper (again, because it's as BA and elite as you can get). His recruiter had other ideas though. He told Zack that because his scores were so high, join the reserves, go to college, get his degree, and THEN go active duty if he still wanted to. (And thankfully Zack took his advice, otherwise we would have never met!)
Carrying on.. Zack's MOS (Military Occupational Specialty.. or in Alli's words: his JOB) is a licensed LVS Operator (Logistics Vehicle System Operator).

AND he is licensed to drive a mk36 wrecker:

Which is basically like an ENORMOUS tow truck, that can tow whatever the heck it wants. Did I mention that it's GIGANTUOUS. It basically is a recovery vehicle, and can pull trucks that get stuck in the sand or mud, it has 3 winches (?? which has something to do with steel cables with hooks on the end that wrap around a drum. Like a fishing reel. WHATEVER).
NOW: some current FYI's: Zack has been down at Camp Lejeune for about 3 weeks now, training, driving, shooting, whatever the heck else they do. Lejeune gets awful internet (sorry for those who have tried contacting him and not gotten responded to) and they have to get up at ungodly hours of the morning which leaves them wiped out by the end of the day. 2 weeks ago they drove to the rifle range (about 45 mins away from Lejeune) and tested their rifalry (is rifalry even a word?) skills. Zack scored super high on his rifle shooting (again, Go hubbs!). The reason I'm going into major detail about all these shenanigans, is because NOW instead of being an mk36 wrecker operator, Zack was made a Gunner, WHICH means that he will be driving around in this:

standing up top, manning the machine gun on convoys, looking for bad people and IED's (Improvised Explosive Device, aka roadside bombs). Which we are all very proud of him for this, because that's a really important position, but we are all OBVIOUSLY going to be praying for him every single day for his safety and protection, from spiritual and physical dangers.
Welllll, that was all a super HUGE mouthful, and I hope it was understandable for everyone. I just want to sign off with this final word:
And I gladly stand up,
Next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.
Thank you to all service members and their families! I now finally understand...
